Wanindu Hasaranga, Tim Southee hit milestones in low-scoring affair

Spinner Wanindu Hasaranga was the star for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as he spun his web to take numbers from 4/20 in a four-over spell to limit Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to just 128, then the encounter for his franchise . Akash Deep and Harshal Patel took three and two wickets respectively, while RCB defeated KKR by three wickets in match 6 of IPL 2022 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.

Skipper Faf du Plessis previously won the toss and chose to bowl first. KKR openers Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer collected only nine and ten runs respectively, as no other KKR batter crossed the 20-run mark except Andre Russell. Hasaranga and Akash Deep were the main destroyers with Harshal Patel also bowling two straight girls and 19 dot balls in his four-over spell. Russell scored 25 runs on 18 deliveries with three maxima to flex his muscles but couldn’t help his side get a big total on the board.

Chasing just 129 runs to win, Umesh Yadav replicated his performance from the last match when he took the wickets of Anuj Rawat and Virat Kohli in another powerplay burst. Shelfane Rutherford of the West Indies fought hard for his 28 runs off 40 balls, with Shahbaz Ahmed making a cameo of 27 runs off 20 deliveries, including three sixes.

Tim Southee got his best marks of 3/20 in the IPL when Dinesh Karthik made sure he was there until the end to score an unbeaten 14 runs with a four and a six to finish the low scoring match with four balls left in RCB’s favor. Wanindu Hasaranga was named Player of the Match for his match-winning spell.

200 – Dinesh Karthik became the second wicket-keeper to play 200 IPL matches as a wicket-keeper. MS Dhoni is on top, with in 215 games.

400 – Andre Russell appeared in his 400th T20 game. He became the sixth player overall to play in 400 T20 games.

1 – Tim Southee wrote his best bowling figures (3/20) in the league. His previous best was 3/24 against SRH in 2016.

3 – Umesh Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy scored the third-highest tenth-wicket partnership (27) in the IPL.

2 – Andre Russell equaled David Warner and is now tied for second with him for hitting the most sixes (38) against RCB. MS Dhoni tops the list breaking 46 maximums.

4/20 – Wanindu Hasaranga registered his best grades in the IPL.

2 – Shelfane Rutherford recorded the second lowest batting frequency (70.00) in an IPL innings with a minimum of 25 runs. Ambati Rayudu had a success rate of 66.66 against RCB in 2019.

2 – For the second game in a row, Umesh Yadav scored the figures of 2/12 in three overs in the power play. He recorded the same figures in the previous game against CSK.

3 – KKR wrote their third lowest total (128) against RCB in the IPL.

16 – Nitish Rana has now gone 16 IPL innings without half a century.

2 – Harshal Patel’s total of 19 dot balls is the highest number of a bowler in an IPL match. Sharing the feat with five other bowlers, Deepak Chahar is on top for bowling 20 dots against KKR in 2019.
