the Tata IPL 2022 the promotion continued on Saturday when 4 teams got into action on yet another doubleheader day. In the first match, Punjab Kings took on Rajasthan Royals and in the 2nd match, Lucknow Super Giants took on Kolkata Knight Riders. Rajasthan Royals defeated Punjab Kings by 6 wickets and consolidated their position in the top 4 from now on. While in the 2nd game LSG won by 75 runs.

PBKS vs RR

In the first game of the day, Punjab Kings batted first and won the toss. Jonny Bairstow led off the innings and scored a 50. Punjab started well but lost the way in the middle. But a 50+ partnership in the slogovers between Jitesh Sharma and Liam Livingstone brought Punjab’s tally to 189. Yuzvendra Chahal was once again the bowlers’ pick for RR as he took 3 for 28 in his 4 overs.

RR started their chase in an emphatic fashion with Jos Buttler going mad against Kagiso Rabada, but Rabada had the last laugh when he got Buttler out. Sanju Samson had a small cameo, but came out for only 23 of 12 balls. Devdutt Padikkal, who came into bat at the age of 4, was unable to start at all as he scored 31 runs on 31 balls.

It was Yashasvi Jaiswal who kept RR in pursuit and in the end it was again Shimron Hetmyer who finished it off for RR as he scored 31 from 16 balls. This was RR’s first score chasing win.

LSG vs KKR

LSG got off to a disastrous start as KL ran out without facing a ball but then Deepak Hooda and Quinton de Kock added 71 runs for the 2nd wicket. But after De Kock and Hooda got out, it was a battle for Krunal Pandya and Ayush Badoni. Pandya scored just 25 runs from 27 balls and Ayush Badoni scored just 15 from 18 balls. In the end, Stonis scored 28 runs off 14 balls and Jason Holder scored 13 runs off 4 balls, bringing LSG’s total to 176 in their 20 overs.

KKR’s response to the chase was horrendous as it took them 9 balls to score their first run. Baba Indrajith got out for a duck without scoring. Shreyas Iyer and Aaron Finch also lost their wickets in the power play itself. At the end of the power play, KKR was 25-3. Nitish Rana got out in the 7th over. But then Andre Russell shot 45 runs from 18 balls, but he stepped out to Avesh Khan in the 13th over. KKR were 85-6. In the end, KKR lost by 75 runs.

RR win means they are now 3rd on the points table and with 14 points they are closing the gap between them and the top 2 sides. PBKS now needs to win all of their 3 remaining games to stand a chance of making the playoffs. While LSG has moved to the top of the points list followed by Gujarat Titans.

Jos Buttler has already racked up over 600 runs this season while leading the charts. KL Rahul is still 2nd on the list despite playing for another duck in the tournament. Quinton de Kock’s 50 helped him enter the top 5.

Yuzvendra Chahal took 3 wickets and consolidated his position at the top. Kuldeep Yadav is 2nd on the list.
