The mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), David Hussey, praised the KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer saying that he has a good cricket brain and a beautiful vision.
Shreyas Iyer was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction in Bengaluru last month, for INR 12.25 crore and he was named as the new leader of the franchise following the departure of Eoin Morgan.

Meanwhile, David Hussey said Iyer is a natural born leader and that he had done a good job as captain for Delhi Capitals (DC). Notably under the captaincy of Iyer, Delhi Capitals reached the final of the 2020 Indian Premier League.
“Shreyas is a natural born leader, only the way he walks around commands respect. Knowing Pat (Cummins) very well, he would make a good deputy and also lead from the front,” Hussey said at a virtual press conference on Wednesday.
“But the way Shreyas has captained Delhi in the past, he has a very good cricket brain and a beautiful vision of how to play the game and I think he will express himself very well. I think it’s a smart move by Brendon ( McCullum) and the management of KKR.”
Hussey was asked how he would coach Shreyas Iyer, to which he replied by saying that sometimes it’s good to leave players alone.
“The best coaching is to just leave the good players alone and let them go where they work. He’s in a rare form at the moment. I don’t know him, I’m getting to know him better, but he comes across as a real leader and a person who knows his game very well,” he explained.

The Kolkata Knight Riders mentor praised KKR’s new recruit Ajinkya Rahane and was confident the veteran Indian batter will dominate the Indian Premier League.
“He has been a class player for over ten years, he dominated for Rajasthan Royals and I believe he has at least another 5-10 years of international cricket in him.”
“He may not be scoring the runs he wants lately, but the way he trains, he will dominate in the IPL and he’s also a leader in the group,” said Hussey.
Talking about the Kolkata Knight Riders’ bowling attack, David Hussey said they have good pacers and spinners.
“Good to have Umesh Yadav on the side again. He’s working hard on his game and he’s an absolute beast and hopefully he’ll charge and bowl exceptionally fast.”
“We have good fast bowlers in Umesh, (Tim) Southee, (Shivam) Mavi and Cummins and good spin in Varun (Chakravarthy) and (Sunil) Narine,” he said.
