RR has qualified for the IPL final for the first time after 2008.
The Rajasthan Royals defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore by seven wickets in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2022 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 27. Thanks to this win, they not only arranged a last date with Gujarat Titans on May 29, but also reached the top match for the first time after the first edition in 2008.
RR skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and chose to bowl first. Batting megastar Virat Kohli was sacked early for seven, while skipper Faf du Plessis (25) and Glenn Maxwell (24) started but failed to convert them into major blows. It was Rajat Patidar again who rose to the occasion and registered a second consecutive 50-plus score in a knockout clash, courtesy of RCB a respectable total of 157/8 on the board. Prasidh Krishna (3/22) and Obed McCoy (3/23) broke RCB’s backbone while Ravichandran Ashwin and Trent Boult took a wicket each.
Jos Buttler pushes RR to final
In response, the opening duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler shattered the confidence of the Bangalore bowlers from the start and scored at a fast pace. They added 61 runs for the first wicket before the youngster was dismissed. While captain Samson (23) played a great supporting role for Buttler, the latter seemed unstoppable as he single-handedly snatched the game from RCB. He brought forth his fifth IPL century and fourth this season when RR crossed the line in the penultimate. He went unbeaten and scored a 60-ball 106. Josh Hazlewood was the bowlers’ pick for Bangalore with numbers of 2/23, while Wanindu Hasaranga took one wicket.

“When we left the field we came up short. Was challenging for the first 3-4 overs, was movement. Felt 180 was a par score on that field. The first six overs felt like test cricket. Compared to the other wickets this one was faster off the new ball and calmed down later in the innings Great season for RCB Really proud My first season is coming up seeing how special the fans are everywhere we go A big thank you to everyone coming over and supporting us.Have had some incredible performances for us.Harshal was amazing.DK..all the guys picked for India.Obviously disappointed tonight.Came up against a very strong Rajasthan team who probably deserve it more than us. That’s the incredible thing, not only the bubble, but you also have a deep respect for the people of India, when you go back to your hotel and there are always people working until 3am, then 7am” again in the morning for breakfast Thank you for all the kindness shown to us as a team but I know it happens all over India. It is a very good part of Indian culture. Nice young talent in our squad, and of course with a 3 year plan.. you try to maximize that.. you get them raw at the beginning but they can become superstars. We have seen that Rajat has been looking at home since he came in. A great future of Indian cricket. You can always pick three Indian teams after the IPL with the amount of young talent coming through. That was the most obvious thing when I joined the franchise. RCB RCB was sung in that game (DC v MI). The boys got emotional. The support you get as a cricketer in India is remarkable. You can’t help but be impressed with the support each franchise gets. Well done to everyone and thank you very much.”

“It was tough (after a loss in the last game), but we are used to bounce back in the tournament. With IPL it is quite normal to go through ups and downs during the tournament. We lost a few games, we knew how to come back and we did very well. The wicket was a bit sticky and helped the fast bowlers a bit, it bounced really well and was easier to play against the spinners. We finished the innings really well, with DK and Maxi at the end we knew what they could do but the faith and composure in our skills got us through it. It (winning the toss) made it easier to win this game, toss plays a big part and I think the wicket played out completely differently in the first and second inning. This is his (Obed McCoy) first IPL, he is very calm and composed and supportive of his strengths and we really trust him to do well. Very grateful to have someone like Jos, and the way he hits, touchwood, we have one more game to go. I was very young and it was the first IPL season and I remember playing an under-16 match somewhere in Kerala and I remember watching the last match with my friends and remember that last run where Shane Warne and Sohail Tanvir ran away and they were running, it was a very vague memory I have.”

“I went into the season with very low expectations but with a lot of energy and excitement and to be here now and have the season I’ve had with such a great team and get us to the finals is incredible exciting I had a tournament of two halves I had some really honest conversations with a few people around me Kumar Sangakarra and Trevor Penny I felt a little pressure, got distracted and I tried to suppress it and it was just a week ago or so that i opened inside and talked about it i felt a lot better when i went to kolkata and that innings helped me the confidence that today i try to play the game all the time what does the game ask me certain times and what skills should I try to use on that particular day. Some days I was slow to get started, I wish I was never like that, I wish I could play fast all the time. Certain times found I find it hard and maybe a younger version of myself went for the big shot and got out and something Sanga told me the longer you stay there it will come at some point. I came in today so excited and the thought of playing in front of 100 thousand people, incredible support, fantastic stadium and brilliant cricket match. I enjoyed today just as much. To have the chance to play in the final of the biggest T20 tournament in the world is incredibly exciting. Shane Warne is such an influential figure for the Rajasthan Royals and after leading the team to success in the first season we will miss him very much but we know he looks down on us with great pride today.”
