Gujarat Titans won by seven wickets to qualify for the final.
The Gujarat Titans proved why they are the top performers when they took an emphatic seven-wicket victory over the Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on May 24. Thanks to this win, they will qualify for their first final while Rajasthan will. take on the winner of Eliminator in Qualifier 2.
GT skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bowl first. They cheaply threw opener Yashasvi Jaiswal away for the duo of Jos Buttler and captain Sanju Samson added 68 runs for the second wicket. With wickets falling to one side, Buttler held the innings tight to one side and took responsibility with a sensible knock. The Englishman looked good for a century before an unfortunate run ended his stay in the middle for a 56-ball 89 as the Royals posted a competitive total of 188/6. Mohammed Shami, Yash Dayal, Hardik Pandya and R Sai Kishore each registered a wicket.
David Miller propels GT to their first final

At the back, the middle-class duo of Hardik Pandya and David Miller kept the scoreboard ticking and kept Gujarat in the hunt. Hardik played a supporting knock of an unbeaten 40 runs off 27 balls.
It all came down to the final over with 16 required runs and pacer Prasidh Krishna was given the responsibility of throwing the final over. Nevertheless, Miller accepted the challenge and hit the youngster three straight sixes when GT came home with three balls left. The Proteas sensation remained unbeaten on 68 runs from 38 deliveries.
Losing skipper, Sanju Samson said:
“It felt good to put up such a total as I felt the wicket was a bit tacky and there was a lot of swing in the power play. I think we managed to put in a good score, but i think they played really well to bring the score down it was a bit of two speed and the bounce wasn’t equal either i just went after bowling ball one and i was a bit lucky to get one got a few runs in the power play but the wicket was a little hard to save and we finished really well.Scoring such a total on this wicket under these conditions, against that bowling attack was a great performance from our batters. We did a really good job the five bowlers were our main bowlers and they did a really good job all through the tournament having Riyan helped too but thought it was a bit better hitting in the second innings as it was nice on the bat We’ve had a great time the whole tournament ed cricket played, a few overs here and there, a few extra runs, a few off rhythm by some of our bowlers, we’ll try to come back and play some good cricket. In this format, luck (the toss) plays a big part, so it all comes down to what you want to do in your control. Hoping for a good result in the next game.”
Winning skipper, Hardik Pandya said:
“I started to balance things in my life. Has been a constant effort in recent years. In the end, my family, my son, my wife and also my brother played a big role. They allowed me to be neutral in life. I’m looking forward to going home and spending some time with family, which has made me a better cricketer too. Don’t feel much now. I will try to be neutral again. All 23 players are different characters, bring different things to the table. I also said to Miller, if you have good people around you, you get good things. It’s been that story for us. The kind of people we have, the real people we have. I really see even the players in the dugout trying and praying for them to make sure they do well. That’s a fantastic thing and that’s why we’ve gotten where we’ve been. It’s about respecting this game. Rash has been fantastic all season and throughout his cricket journey. But I’m proud of Miller – the way we played. Wherever my team needs me to play, I generally don’t ask where I want to hit. That’s not how I’m successful. I have success playing for the team, no matter how grumpy I look, no matter how good I look, irrelevant to me. The batting order we had – we had to make sure everyone puts in. We appreciate those 10s, 15s, 20s.”
Player of the match, David Miller said:
“First of all, I think about opportunities (what has changed?). I got a part, I felt hugely supported from the start. My personal game – I enjoy my role, which I have played for many years. Understand my game a lot better. In high pressure situations, you tend to move away from your game plan, but I feel like I’m trying to keep everything together, close to the game plan. A lot has gone into the outside world, so I actually decided to switch for the first time. I supported myself and went with me. The rest I tried to hit as hard as possible. Those are the joys of IPL: you play for different teams, meet different players. It was a new team so there are some butterflies here and there. Everything came together from the first win. You have to master what you can, not think too much ahead. Concentrate on your breath, and if it’s around you, capitalize. We have a few days off. There’s a bus trip back, we’ll have a drink and party.”
