Delhi Capitals have lost their previous encounter with Royal Challengers Bangalore
Delhi Capitals led the way in their previous match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Somehow, though, they managed to let the game slip out of their grasp. Not just against RCB, but this was the story for DC in IPL 2022. The Capitals somehow let their opponents make a comeback in the game and eventually beat them.
DC currently sits eighth in the points table with just two wins in their five games. They have suffered defeats at the hands of RCB, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Gujarat Titans (GT). However, DC has also managed to beat the five-time Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) champions.
DC will now close horns with the Punjab Kings in their next group stage match of the IPL. The meeting will take place on April 20 (Wednesday) at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. Bad news for Capital fans: All-round star Mitchell Marsh has tested positive in his Covid-19 test and will not be available.
Here is the Delhi Capitals predicted to play XI vs Punjab Kings:
Openers: David Warner and Prithvi Shaw
After not performing in his first game, Australian opener David Warner was in top form in the previous two encounters. While the left-handed batter scored 66 runs against RCB, he was also excellent with the bat against KKR, taking 61 from 45 balls. Warner will try to continue his good form against PBKS as well.
Like Warner, Prithvi Shaw has also been in excellent contact. The right-handed batter has had an explosive start to his franchise this season and will try to match his antics against the Punjab Kings as well. The 22-year-old has hit two half-centuries in the tournament so far.
Middle Order: Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant, Rovman Powell, Lalit Yadav
Batter Sarfaraz Khan scored a superb 36 off 28 balls against LSG, but failed to hit in DC’s next encounter against KKR, before being dropped for their final game against RCB. The 24-year-old is impressing and is expected to make a comeback in the Capitals side for their next game against PBKS.
skipper Rishabh Pant was one of the runs in IPL 2022. However, the lefthanded batter has so far not shown his full abilities in this edition. Pant played a decent 34-run knockout in just 17 balls against the Red Army, but that wasn’t enough for his team to cross the line. The captain will try to take more responsibility with the bat and make a winning contribution to his team.
Barring his match-winning 48* knockout in the first game against Mumbai Indians, Lalit Yadav has failed to impress, racking up just 75 runs from five games. The 25-year-old definitely needs some runs from his bat or else he could be replaced by another talented batter who warms up the bench for DC.
With Mitchell Marsh in danger of missing out on the game against PBKS, West Indian all-rounder Rovman Powell is expected to get another chance to show his batting prowess. Powell will be looking to make a handy contribution with the bat in DC’s next game against the Punjab Kings.
All-rounders: Axar Patel and Shardul Thakuro
Axar Patel and Shardul Thakuro are two key performers for Delhi so far this season. The all-rounder duo were involved in a match-winning partnership in their encounter against KKR, where they together formed an unbeaten score of 49 points for the sixth wicket. Likewise, in the last game against RCB, both Shardul (17 out of 9) and Axar (10* out of 7) tried to chase the total for their teams but failed.
Although RCB posted a grand total of 189 runs, both Axar and Shardul were very frugal in their respective four overs, scalping one wicket each. However, DC fans haven’t seen the best of either talented player and will want them to pull out all the stops in their next game against PBKS.
Bowlers: Kuldeep Yadav, Mustafizur Rahman and Khaleel Ahmed
Spinner Kuldeep Yadavi was in excellent form in IPL 2022. The Chinese was named Player of the Match for his impressive performance against his former franchise KKR for his 4/35 figures from his four overs. The spinner is looking to continue his good form and look forward to a comeback in the national team for the T20 World Cup later this year.
Both left arm pacers, Khaleel Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman, have been quietly doing their job for DC thus far. They have taken some crucial wickets for their franchise and have bowled well in the death overs as well. However, both Khaleel and Mustafizur were quite expensive in their last match and they will be looking to improve their bowling performance against PBKS’ strong batting lineup.
Here is the forecast XI of Delhi Capitals: David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Lalit Yadav, Rovman Powell, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Mustafizur Rahman, Khaleel Ahmed.
