In any form of the game, the field players play a vital role in determining the fate of the match. Any catch dropped by a fielder in a tense situation can hurt the side’s chances of a win. On the other hand, if a player manages to take a blinder, the team on the field gets a big boost and can dominate the match.

It also depends on a particular player’s field position to determine how many chances he will have to take a catch. In general, the teams in T20Is prefer to put their best fielders in those positions on the boundary line where he is most likely to make a catch. Usually it is long-on or long-of-position.

In this article, we will list 5 players who have taken the most catches in IPL history:

5. Virat Kohli – 84 catches

Virat Kohli, the highest run scorer in the history of the IPL, has only played for one franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore since the IPL’s inception in 2008. He has made 84 catches in the history of the competition so far. These catches were made in 205 innings, making his catch per inning ratio at 0.409.

4. Rohit Sharma – 90

Rohit Sharma, his side’s captain in IPL, is usually seen inside the circle. He has made 90 catches in the 213 games he has played to date. He holds the record for winning the most titles in the money-rich league as a captain. His catch-per-innings ratio of 0.422 is still decent as he usually fields in those positions where there are fewer chances of making a catch.

3. AB de Villiers – 90

The Proteas batsman AB de Villiers currently has one of the safest hands in world cricket. He has made 90 catches in 130 innings so far. His catch per innings ratio of 0.692 is the highest for any player in tournament history with a minimum of 30 catches. AB de Villiers has played for RCB for a long time and used to be part of the Delhi squad. He decided to retire from all forms of cricket in November 2021 and will no longer participate in the IPL.

2. Kieron Pollard – 96

The West Indian all-rounder Kieron Pollard has time and time surprised everyone with its incredible catches near the border ropes. His height also aids him in plucking catches for fun, which is why he is usually seen in the long-on or long-off region. He has so far made 96 catches in the 178 innings of the competition with a ratio of 0.539.

1. Suresh Raina – 109

Suresh Raina is regarded as one of the greatest field players in Indian cricket history. With 109 catches in IPL, he is the only player to make more than 100 catches in the cash-rich league. Raina played most of his IPL matches for Chennai Super Kings and led the Gujarat Lions team when suspended for the first two years. He has a catch per innings ratio of 0.534 in a total of 204 innings he has played on the field.
