The BCCI and the IPL-Governing Council will introduce the rights for the 2023-27 cycle in the coming week, as reported by Sportstar. The Indian cricket board and IPL GC are also expected to deliberate on keeping the process transparent, with intense competition for the same expected. Current rights rest with Star Sports, which is expected to re-enter the fray alongside other major players, including Sony, Amazon and Jio.

The other major agenda of the meeting is said to be the Women’s IPL, with BCCI president Sourav Ganguly suggesting a full competition is possible. The Women’s T20 Challenge has been popular in recent years and there may be a Women’s IPL from next year. The report states that BCCI is happy to host the Women’s T20 Challenge this year, with about three or four teams taking part in the competition, which will be held in Pune in May.

While the schedule for the IPL 2022 competition was announced by the BCCI, the meeting also allowed a decision on the venue for the playoffs. While the 70 matches were split between three venues in Mumbai and one in Pune, the play-offs are unlikely to be played at those venues, with a move to Ahmedabad or Kolkata being discussed.
