India vs West Indies: “One of the best team environments I’ve been in,” says Dinesh Karthik, hails current coaching lineup

Dinesh Karthik has had a stellar 2022 thus far, as he made his comeback in India’s T20I as XI after strong performances for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2022. Since his return, the right-handed batter has played in 13 T20Is this year he scored 174 runs and made the finisher his own spot. In the first T20I of the five-game series against the West Indies, Karthik showed what he’s made of, scoring 41 runs off just 19 balls, helping India to rack up 190 runs.

India currently leads the five-match series 2-1, and ahead of the fourth T20I, Karthik addressed a press conference where he spoke about his performance and expectations.

“Pressure is a privilege right now. As a cricketer, as an athlete, it’s something you only get when you play at the highest level and people expect certain things from you, so I’m happy. I think it’s important to make sure make sure the match situation is on any given day, read the match situation and try to do your best on that particular day,” Karthik said while answering an NDTV question at a press conference.

When asked what he’s been working on in his game, Karthik said, “Power-hitting. That’s something I’ve been working on, I wish I’d done that a little earlier in my life, but right now I’m fine.” Extremely happy this is what I have strived for all my life the captain and coach have so much confidence in me so it is only fair that I repay it by giving the team the performance that will help the team to This is the happiest being part of the Indian team, the amount of love and affection I have received not only from the team and the fans but also from the support I have received from the captain and the coach.”

“The finisher’s role is such that it’s hard to be consistent. Every time you step in you have to be able to make an impact that will help the team. There are many factors that can make it harder for you, especially in the caribbean and miami wind will be a huge factor even though it is a sport played with a heavy ball the wind dictates some times where you play the shots it works both ways the bowlers are smart and they try to hit you upwind as much as possible. That makes it all the more difficult,” he added.

The 37-year-old also said this is the best team environment he has been in and he also praised the coaching staff for maintaining consistency and continuity.

“I think I’ve said it a lot and I’ll keep saying it. I think this is one of the best team environments I’ve been in because of the consistency and continuity they seem to give players. They’re not judged on a daily basis and they get the time, they get the chance to fail. I think it’s very important to give players the chance to fail and then move on to the next player,” said Karthik.

“In India there are so many players now, the general feeling is that whoever plays is always better than whoever played the game. I think Vikram Rathour, Paras Mhambrey should get a lot of credit, and Rahul Dravid, because they have that mentality in which they do not get carried away by handsome players, they can understand what a player must have gone through to give a failure on any given day and support them and have the right conversation with them so that they can see the right performance of the player The best teams in every sport have been able to maximize their talent and that is something that this current Indian team does well,” he added.
