Gujarat Titans all-rounder Vijay Shankar returned to the team on Thursday for their win against Rajasthan Royals but was unable to make an impact as he was sacked for just 2 of 7 deliveries. He found himself trending on Twitter, but for all the wrong reasons, as fans took to the microblogging site to troll him. While some asked how he got picked up in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, but not a veteran like Suresh Raina, others suggested he should just warm up the banks in the money-rich league.
“I used to think that Vijay Shankar is not a player worthy of the Indian team but I was wrong because to be honest he shouldn’t even be warming benches in franchise cricket,” one user wrote.
“Vijay Shankar was chosen by a franchise, but not Raina,” added another user.
“Vijay Shankar’s only contribution to cricket is to make a legend of Dinesh Karthik in the final of the Nidahas Trophy,” said one user.
“Celebrating Vijay Shankar’s wicket is his greatest achievement,” commented one user.
I always thought Vijay Shankar is not a player worthy of the Indian team but I was wrong because to be honest he shouldn’t even be warming the benches in franchise cricket… pathetic cricketer… @bhogleharsha excited him for scoring 40 odd runs in a match for India

Since RR is weakened without Boult, it’s a lot of fun for GT to level the playing field by putting themselves at a disadvantage by playing Vijay Shankar.#RRvsGT

The number of chances Vijay Shankar gets is way too many!

Shankar played GT’s first game but an injury ruled him out and he was replaced by the younger B Sai Sudharshan. He replaced Sudharshan in the game against the Royals.
Despite Shankar failing to fire, Gujarat Titans scored 192/4, with skipper Hardik Pandya crushing an unbeaten 87 from 52 deliveries.
Abhinav Manohar continued his good form scoring 43 out of 28, while David Miller gave them a strong finish with his 31* out of 14.
Lockie Ferguson then blew the Royals away with his pace as he finished with three wickets for just 23 runs.
The most crucial of these was that of Jos Buttler, who had run amok and hit some fifty of 23 balls.
Debutant Yash Dayal also picked three when Gujarat Titans took a 37-run win to top the IPL 2022 points list.
