LSG have now won three out of four games in their first IPL season
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) continued their solid start in the tournament as they defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by six wickets in match 15 of IPL 2022 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. K Gowtham won on 1/23 and Ravi Bishnoi on 2/22 as both cast brilliant spells with Quinton de Kock crushing 80 runs to write the third win for LSG this IPL season. DC, led by Rishabh Pant, has now lost two of the three matches played in the campaign so far.
As to how the northern derby went, KL Rahul won the toss and LSG chose to field first. They made one substitution when K Gowtham replaced out-of-form batter Manish Pandey. DC made three changes with David Warner, Sarfaraz Khan and Anrich Nortje all replacing Tim Seifert, Mandeep Singh and Khaleel Ahmed respectively.
Prithvi Shaw was at his best as the right-handed opener crushed 61 runs on just 34 deliveries with nine fours and two sixes. David Warner and Rovman Powell scored just four and three runs respectively, with skipper Pant scoring 39 unbeaten runs and Sarfaraz Khan 36* to take their side to a total of 149/3 in 20 overs.
Rahul was chasing a modest 150-run goal, scoring 24 runs off 25 balls when Evin Lewis was sent off for just five runs. The star of the run-chase for LSG was wicketkeeper batter De Kock, who hit 80 runs off 52 pitches with nine fours and two maximums. Krunal Pandya and young Ayush Badoni went unbeaten at the end to round out the chase for their side in the final.
Anrich Nortje had an unforgettable first game when he gave up 35 runs in his 2.2 overs period. LSG with six points moved up to second among Kolkata Knight Riders in the table, while DC slipped to seventh by just two points. For his stylish and competition-winning knock, Quinton de Kock was named Player of the Match.
