“During the IPL final, there was a meeting. There are two windows for which a green signal must be obtained, one in March/April and the second in September/October. We will also contact ICC to find a separate counter. BCCI could start men’s IPL in May next year,” the source told ANI.

Both BCCI chairman Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah have confirmed that the board has initiated plans to replace the Women’s T20 Challenge with WIPL from 2023. The first edition is expected to be a six-team affair.

According to a report by New Indian Express, after consultation with various stakeholders within the board and its commercial partners, BCCI came up with two windows: March and September. The September window is unlikely, however, as the Women’s Big Bash League will be held during this time while The Hundred kicks off in July. It is followed by the inaugural edition of the Women’s Caribbean Premier League.

Therefore, the March window before IPL 2023 seems the logical choice for BCCI. But a decision will be made once the BCCI gets the green signal from the ICC.

According to the report, the BCCI has also held discussions with other boards such as Cricket Australia and England & Wales Cricket Board. The BCCI has received a positive response from the rival board and will receive their support from the ICC for a separate counter.
